Information System Budgetary Responsibility for Security Cameras
Purpose: Describe security camera coverage at buildings and clearly identify what equipment Information Systems is responsible to maintain.
In order to maintain a reliable and modern security camera system, the Information Systems Department adheres to the following guidelines and budgetary responsibilities.
Area of Coverage & Equipment
Secondary Locations: Due to the frequency of unsupervised times through the day and the large size of buildings, secondary buildings will have full camera coverage on the interior and exterior perimeter of the building. The following equipment will be provided and maintained by Information Systems:
- Cameras that cover the following areas:
- Interior - hallways, common areas, publicly accessible areas, main office, stairwells, exterior doors, library, restroom entry/exit, gym, vestibule.
- Exterior – Exterior entrances, building perimeter accessible to students or the public, portables, student and staff parking lots, recreational areas (courts, fields, etc).
- Instructional areas will not have camera coverage.
- Workstation and monitor or TVs for security staff to view cameras
- Vestibule monitor
- TV for office staff to monitor entryway
Elementary Locations: Camera modernization will occur over the next 2-3 years for elementary locations. The need for campus-wide coverage at elementary is less necessary because students have continuous adult supervision. Information Systems will cover High Priority areas, as identified by a group of elementary Principals in 2023. The below high priority areas were defined as areas with less supervision, unstructured environments, and primary building entry points. These areas were selected due to the higher risk of physical security breaches and higher instances of student incidents. The following equipment will be provided and maintained by Information Systems:
- Cameras that cover the following areas:
- Interior – Cafeteria, unstructured environments, restroom entry/exit as needed, exterior doors, vestibule, specialized program areas
- Exterior – Playgrounds, primary exterior entrances, bus drop-off/pick up , parent pick up
- Vestibule monitor
- TV for office staff to monitor entryway
The following elementary locations were prioritized as Moderate and Low:
- Moderate – Hallways, highly trafficked areas, portables
- Low – Staff Parking, main office
New Camera Location Requests
New camera requests will be evaluated by Information Systems to determine if the location of the request is congruent with the areas under Information Systems responsibility and is fiscally reasonable. If the new requested camera does not meet this criteria, Information Systems will provide a quote for installation, hardware, and licensing cost so the building can decide if they would like to fund the new camera.
Security Camera Access
The following roles will be granted access to the security camera monitoring system.
- Office Staff: monitor the main entrance, vestibule area, bus drop off/pick up (View Only)
- Vestibule account at each building. If there is no office TV to monitor, Secretary will receive permissions so they can have cameras on their computer.
- Behavior Interventionist: all cameras (view only)
- Administrators, Deans, Security Specialists: all cameras (Full access, save video clips)
Camera Hardware Standards
- 4mp
- Firmware or end of support within last 5 years
- 10 years as a soft replacement timeline
