How to Troubleshoot Laptop not Powering On / Charging
Purpose:
This guide will show you how to get your laptop to power back on. This will work on both student and staff devices, but the model shown in this guide will be the Acer Spin 14 staff laptop.
Issue:
Your laptop will not power in, or the screen is completely black.
Guide:
Step 1:
Verify your charger is not the problem:
Try using another charger (preferably of a different type) and see if your laptop accepts a charge.
Our laptops (besides some Chromebooks) typically accept two different types of chargers. One is a USB-C type charger, the other is a “pin” charger. Find another charger and plug it in.

Step 2:
Once you plug in a different charger, check for the battery light on the device. It is usually located next to the power button, but on the Spin 14 it is located on the front.

If you get a charge light, give it a couple minutes and try powering the laptop on. If this does not work, continue to Step 3
Step 3:
Reset the battery:
Most of our laptops have a small pin hole on the bottom which gives access to a battery reset button. You can stick a small paperclip or SIM card removal tool into the hole and press the button inside to reset the battery.
Press and hold for 10 seconds:

Step 4:
After resetting the battery, the laptop may power itself on. If not, wait 10 seconds and try powering it on yourself. If everything worked, you should see the laptop startup screen below:

Conclusion:
You now know how to troubleshoot your laptop not charging and powering on.
